Famous Remains: The Story of Three Cadavers

The strange story of what happened to three famous people, Oliver Cromwell, Catherine Parr and George 'Big Nose' Parrot, after they had shuffled off their mortal coil, illustrates our convoluted history of, and reaction to, mortal remains.

  • As always, an outstanding video. Your mentioning Catherine Parr and Henry VIII reminds me of what Henry VIII did to Thomas Beckett's after he became head of the Church of England. He exhumed the body and burned it and and called him a traitor(Beckett's remains were eventually recovered and reburied in an undisclosed location). ALSO, there was a RATHER MACABRE incident known as THE CADAVER SYNOD(this occurred in the Middle Ages) where a Pope despised his predecessor so much he put the corpse on trial. He, then, cut off the dead Pope's fingers used for blessings, burned the body and dumped the ashes in the Tiber river.😬😬😬✌✌✌✌

  • Really? But why nobody mentions how much America as a nation, private and state, invests in medical achievements and advances? The majority of medicines, surgical techniques and medical devices in the world were made by Americans and their money. Then by Socialist Neo-Lib/Con practices, some actually good but the majority criminal, everything is made and sold cheaply in other countries... those with Marxist collective medicine like England and Canada. And medicine is one aspect, other technologies are the same. "America must embrace socialism"… sure sure sure
